Title: Project Engineer
Schedule: 8am-5pm Mon-Fri
Pay: $60-$95K/yr (contract to hire)
Summary: Lead a project from conception to production.
Accountability, Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
• Lead a project from conception to production
• Electrical design of consumer or commercial products from concept to production
• Use company electronic documentation system for schematics, drawings, component specifications, assemblies, bills of materials, etc.
• Ensures designs meet regulatory requirements such as FCC, UL, and CE
• Perform tests internally and then work with independent test lab to perform documented testing
• Participate in design reviews of own and other designs
• Design lead for product improvements, cost reductions, and component lead time reductions • Display creativity in designs
• Working knowledge of IC vendor’s capabilities and availabilities
• Building of working prototypes – work with lab technicians as well as be able to solder and debug prototypes on own.
• Provide regular project updates to the design team on
o Schedule
o Product cost
o Development cost
• Keep project on schedule
o Create contingency plans for technical/logistical delays
o Subcontract portions of a project if necessary and approved
• Co-ordinate between mechanical, electrical and software engineering departments to align delivery dates
• Co-ordinate with purchasing to ensure that all parts are available for prototype, pilot and initial production builds
• Create requirements documents without oversight
• Work with sales and marketing to determine how products should perform
• Work with sales for occasional end user visits
• Provide competitive product analysis (report)
• Knows the answer or is one person away from an answer for any aspect of assigned project
• Perform cost analysis on design decisions
• Write testing documentation for production
• Oversee initial production
• Assist in product maintenance once in the field .
• Track bugs and product failures
• Report and oversee corrective action on bugs and failures
• Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications :
Qualification / Skills:
• Use scheduling software (Microsoft Project/Visio), skill at knowing the critical path for a project
• Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Products
• Must have knowledge of Bills of Materials and Engineering Change processes
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
• Must be detail-oriented, accurate, and organized
• Willingness to work in a team-oriented environment
• Comprehensive understanding of electronics
• Experience with circuit simulation tools
• Experience designing printed circuit boards
• Design of digital, analog and power circuit
• Basic understanding of embedded and PC software
• Self-starter
• Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Ability to be covered under company vehicle insurance
Education / Experience:
• BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree minimum with 5 years related experience, or MS in Electrical Engineering with 2 years related experience
• Experience with Omnify, an electronic documentation system
• Experience with video and/or audio product design
• Design or support manufacturing test equipment used for testing volume production of electronic products
• Directly working with manufacturers of electronic assemblies that are more than a 3 hours distance from your office
• Participated in the start-up production of a new product – pilot production
• Worked directly with independent test labs
• RF and antenna design experience
• Working in an ISO9001-like management system
